Over the past month, artists such as Hotline TNT, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Deerhoof, and Xiu Xiu have removed their music from Spotify. Many pointed to CEO Daniel Ek’s $700 million investment in military AI as a key reason. Meanwhile, Apple Music has noticed users searching for less controversial streaming platforms and in response, has expanded its music transfer tool.

According to MacRumors, Apple Music now allows U.S. users to import playlists and libraries from other digital services. This feature, which was first introduced in Australia and New Zealand in May, is now available in the U.S. Though similar services existed on other platforms, Apple Music’s collaboration with SongShift is free and more user-friendly. Once an Apple Music account is created, users can find a “Transfer Music” option in the Settings to match as many songs as possible, marking any that cannot be matched.

This tool benefits users of services like Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tidal, and YouTube. Meanwhile, Spotify is reintroducing its direct messaging feature, removed in 2017, with further details available on their blog.
